Brody Jewish Center - at the University of Virginia

About Us

UVA Hillel Students.

The Brody Jewish Center, Hillel at the University of Virginia, is the focal point in a renaissance of Jewish life for the 1,800 Jewish students on Grounds.  Building upon UVa’s strong tradition of student leadership, the Brody Jewish Center actively and successfully empowers Jewish students to create relevant and meaningful Jewish experiences that will inspire a lifelong commitment to the Jewish people.  The Brody Jewish Center is engaging more Jewish students than ever before through a broad range of activities and creative initiatives for social enjoyment, Jewish learning and community outreach.

Working with Jewish student groups that comprise the Jewish Leadership Council and Jewish graduate student groups, the Brody Jewish Center strives to create a warm and welcoming community for Jewish students on Grounds.  Each year, The Brody Jewish Center connects students to their community, their peers and their heritage through diverse array of programming. The Brody Jewish Center does not have members; all students are welcome to participate in all activities.

Whether it is through weekly Shabbat dinners, a free trip to Israel, social gatherings, interfaith dialogues, or volunteering at a local homeless shelter, there is a place for every student at the Brody Jewish Center.  With over 50 students serving in leadership roles, The Brody Jewish Center is truly an organization for students, run by students.

Here are just a few students' remarks about the Brody Jewish Center:

The Brody Jewish Center has given me opportunities to experience Jewish
culture and religion and to explore my personal  relationship with Judaism.  The Brody Jewish Center is an open and accepting community, where Jewish students of all different backgrounds can gather, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships.

The Brody Jewish Center has provided me a warm and welcoming environment that is unlike any other. I always know that when I come to a Hillel event, I will be welcomed with open arms.  The Brody Jewish Center has become my home away from home.

The Brody Jewish Center has given me the Jewish community for which I have always searched.  It is  a community I can laugh with at shared meals on Friday nights and holidays, and it is also a community that has challenged me politically, religiously, and spiritually.
